"With a few notable exceptions, the blues is the music of experience. The now long lives of those who made the rock that revolutionized the radio, has led them back to the blues. They have become the people they started out admiring. Among the guitarists who have released blues albums in recent years -- Eric Clapton, Neil Young -- and now ... Jerry Miller. "Jerry Miller learned his licks from listening to Albert Collins, T-Bone Walker, Muddy Waters, the 'Three Kings' -- Albert, B.B. and Freddie -- and the more obscure Joe Jones, whom Jerry would go see while growing up in the Northwest. He even 'followed Wes Montgomery around like a puppy.' It was this feel that Jerry brought with him to San Francisco as a founding member of Moby Grape. "The legendary Moby Grape had a short super-nova existence with the rock stratosphere, but tragically they became the prime example of everything that can go wrong for a band: personal and promotional excesses, megalomania and mismanagement. If you have to suffer to play the blues, Jerry Miller's dues are paid up for a lifetime membership. "With Tiran Porter on bass -- the man who provided the R&B snap in the rhythm section of The Doobie Brothers' hits -- and drummer 'Fuzzy' John Oxendine, who backed the blue-eyed soul of Boz Scaggs and The Sons of Champlin, the Jerry Miller Band makes authentic blues. "It's time." -Paul "Lobster" Wells, FM Radio D.J., San Francisco, May 1995 TopSong List:
